WEB™ SL DeviceProduct Code (REF): W5-4.5-2

The WEB™ SL (Single Layer) Device is MicroVention's intrasaccular flow disruptor for wide-neck bifurcation aneurysms at locations including the MCA bifurcation, ACA/AcomA, and basilar apex — the precise aneurysm geometries that are most challenging for coiling alone and that historically required stent-assisted coiling with its attendant antiplatelet requirements. The WEB SL is deployed entirely within the aneurysm sac, expanding to fill the dome and covering the neck from the inside. By disrupting flow at the aneurysm neck and promoting progressive thrombosis within the sac, it achieves occlusion without any component in the parent artery and without requiring a companion stent or long-term dual antiplatelet therapy in most protocols. The device's self-expanding nitinol braid conforms to the aneurysm shape on deployment. Sizing requires measurement of both aneurysm width and height — the SL line spans 3 mm × 2 mm through 11 mm × 9 mm — and the device is delivered through a VIA microcatheter matched to the WEB size (VIA 17 for 3–7 mm width; VIA 27 for 8–9 mm; VIA 33 for 10–11 mm). Detachment is electrolytic via the V-Grip controller. The SLS (Single Layer Sphere) variant handles spherically-shaped aneurysms where width and height are approximately equal. WEB SL is CE Mark approved and widely published in prospective registries (WEB-IT, WEBCAST) demonstrating adequate occlusion rates at 12-month follow-up.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the WEB™ SL Device and how does it work?
The WEB™ SL (Single Layer) Device is an intrasaccular flow disruptor for wide-neck bifurcation aneurysms. Deployed entirely inside the aneurysm sac, it disrupts blood flow at the aneurysm neck from the inside — without any component in the parent artery — causing progressive thrombosis and occlusion. Unlike stent-assisted coiling, it requires no companion stent and no long-term dual antiplatelet therapy in most protocols.
What aneurysm locations is WEB™ SL indicated for?
WEB SL is designed for wide-neck bifurcation aneurysms, particularly at locations that are traditionally challenging: MCA (middle cerebral artery) bifurcation, anterior communicating artery (AComA), anterior cerebral artery, and basilar apex. These are precisely the geometries where coiling alone has high recurrence rates and where stent-assisted coiling carries added risk from antiplatelet requirements. The WEB SL's intrasaccular design avoids parent artery stenting at these locations.
What sizes does WEB™ SL come in?
WEB SL ranges from 3 mm × 2 mm (W5-3-2, VIA 17) through 11 mm × 9 mm (W2-11-9, VIA 33) in width × height combinations. Sizes 3–7 mm wide are delivered via VIA 17 microcatheter; 8–9 mm via VIA 27; 10–11 mm via VIA 33. Correct sizing requires measurement of both aneurysm width and height to select the appropriate configuration.
What is the difference between WEB™ SL and WEB™ SLS?
WEB SL (Single Layer) is available in non-spherical (disc-shaped) dimensions where width and height differ — e.g., 4 mm wide × 2 mm tall. WEB SLS (Single Layer Sphere) is designed for aneurysms where width and height are approximately equal, creating a spherical device shape: WEB SLS 4 through WEB SLS 11. SLS sizing requires only a single aneurysm diameter measurement.
What clinical evidence supports WEB™ SL?
WEB SL has been evaluated in multiple prospective registries including WEBCAST (European multicenter), WEB-IT (pivotal US study), and WEBCAST 2. These studies demonstrate adequate occlusion rates (complete or neck remnant) in 85–90% of patients at 12-month angiographic follow-up, with low procedural complication rates and no requirement for long-term antiplatelet therapy beyond the perioperative period in most patients.
