HydroSoft™ and HydroFrame® are MicroVention's hydrogel-coated platinum coil lines, carrying a biocompatible hydrogel layer that swells 2–4× its original volume within minutes of contact with blood inside the aneurysm sac. This volume expansion increases the effective packing density achievable with a given coil mass — allowing operators to achieve higher final volumetric occlusion rates without adding more coil loops, which would otherwise increase the risk of coil herniation into the parent vessel. HydroFrame serves the framing role: placed first into the aneurysm to establish the initial scaffold, its hydrogel expansion helps anchor the frame against the aneurysm wall and creates a denser initial grid. HydroSoft 3D and HydroSoft Helical are finishing coils, placed after framing to fill residual void volume in the sac interior; their lower packing modulus allows them to conform to available space around existing coil loops while the hydrogel expansion fills remaining gaps. Multiple prospective studies (HELPS trial, Hydrogel Endovascular Aneurysm Treatment series) have demonstrated improved aneurysm occlusion rates and reduced recanalization versus bare platinum at 12-month follow-up. HydroFrame is available in 0.010 in and 0.018 in system sizes (diameters 4–20 mm); HydroSoft in 3D and Helical shapes covering 1–6 mm. All are delivered via Headway 17 microcatheter.

- HydroSoft and HydroFrame have been evaluated in the HELPS (Hydrogel Endovascular Aneurysm Treatment) randomized trial and multiple prospective registries. The HELPS trial demonstrated improved aneurysm occlusion rates and reduced recanalization versus bare-platinum coils at 12-month angiographic follow-up, with no increase in procedural complication rates. The hydrogel volume expansion mechanism is the key differentiator from bare platinum in terms of long-term durability.
- Are HydroSoft™ and HydroFrame® compatible with standard microcatheters?
- Yes. All HydroSoft and HydroFrame coils are delivered via Headway 17 Advanced (0.017 in lumen, working length 150 cm). They are compatible with standard 6Fr guide catheter systems and all standard neurovascular access platforms. The hydrogel coating does not affect delivery or detachment mechanics.
