BD PureWick™ External Catheters

BD PureWick™ External Catheters provide non-invasive urine output management for both male and female patients. BD describes the principle simply: using low pressure wall suction, the PureWick™ External Catheter wicks urine away from the patient and into a designated collection canister, helping to keep skin dry. Where wall suction is not available, BD offers the PureWick™ Urine Collection System to provide suction capability. BD positions the technology as an alternative to indwelling Foley catheterisation for appropriate patients, and lists patient situations where it may be suitable: patients who require urine output monitoring but do not meet indications for indwelling Foley catheterisation; urinary incontinence and/or frequent urination; skin irritation related to urinary incontinence or absorbent briefs; post-surgical or post-procedure immobility; bedrest orders; difficulty walking from bed or chair to the toilet; and difficulty using a bedpan. The challenges BD associates with the alternative approaches include skin irritation, disrupted sleep and night-time falls. For nursing and continence care teams, the practical interest is in reducing reliance on indwelling catheters for non-retentive incontinent patients while still recording output. Azmed Devices provides documentation, tender support and supply coordination for BD urology and continence care products in Azerbaijan.
